According to Arendell's and Woodrum's book Italy's Battle Rifle, only ~20k tromboncino were produced (p.171). Few of these are know to still exist (they believe only 14-16 exist in the US, no comment for other countries). The R.E. only used this grenade launcher for a few years, but by 1933 it was taken out of service. The rifles that originally mounted the system are reworked in the arsenals by filling the stock wood insets. One can occasionally find those rifles as the the wood plugs that were used to fill the insets are quite visional.

This is holy grail collector's item. Arendell had managed over many years to finally complete one such example. Note that the launcher itself doesn't have its own bolt. The soldier would removed the bolt from the rifle and place it in the launcher; this was one of the flaws that that resulted in the decision to retire the system.

Pista! Jeff
