Did Messe have any offspring? Did they follow in his father's footsteps with the military?

I haven't this information. However, as Gen. Giovanni Messe was born in Mesagne, I would suggest to ask to one of the sites of that town. For example the site:

http://www.mesagnesera.it/

is managed by Mr. Giuseppe Messe!! Perhaps, he could be a relative.
