I know that this is an Italian knife, but do not know if it was general issue or to special troops only?

Hello and welcome,
This is the M35 fighting knife. It was designed primarily for the blackshirts(MVSN, CCNN), but saw widespread use within the army and paratroopers. There seemed to be more widespread use amongst other troops, other than blackshirts, after September 43 when photo documentation shows a variety of different RSI troopers armed with this blade. You have the enlisted version with brown handle. The black handled were officer's and white handled were Generals. There are two different scabbards...the first model has the embossed fasces and was very popular and desired by the troopers and nowadays with collectors. The other version does not have the embossed fasces. Many times these knives were carved with political, personal slogans and artwork. Hope this helps. Nice example you have there. Thanks for the help, the grip on mine is actually black. The photois a bit on the light side and makes it looks brownish. Any idea as to th ecurrent value? I have not seen any of these on Ebay recently.

I've seen them go for as low as $60.00 and as high as $300.00 for carved examples. At epay you will pay more.
A black handled example? I've seen them with silvered or chrome like rivets. Very nice looking...
Something to ponder...these Italian fighting knives are being reproduced at this time. One of the few Italian items being reproduced for that matter...the copies are nice. I am not saying yours is...just look out if you purchase another.
Enjoy your blade...they were made for killing and are designed to do so well.
Saluti! Arditi

...here is an example of an enlisted M35 fighting knife with 1st pattern scabbard. This example once had an insignia attached to the handle. The insignia is long gone, but the attachment prong still exists....Arditi

Dominick,
"Reasonable" can be very subjective; especially to the seller! Ha ha...here goes: I paid $60.00 for mine minus the scabbard. I never thought I would find a loose scabbard, but luckily I did for $110.00. So I have $170.00 into mine. I have seen the M39 examples go for $150.00 plus and that price is climbing over time. If you can find a solid example of the M35 for anything under $200.00...snap it up! An example of M39 I'd pay $200.00 and lower depending on condition. Dominick, these blades will increase in value and have in the last few years. Condition is always a key in value though I prefer the dogged examples...I know they were used! Hope this helps...this is my opinion only. Arditi

Hi Serge,
Send a pic. I'd like to see it. If you paid that much for an original you got an excellent deal! Arditi http://www.arditi43.com

Roger that Arditi. Consider it done. I'll get it snapped and scanned in a couple of days. It even has the leather washer intact on the hilt near the ricasso. Pretty neat.

I listed it on Ebay and had a collector from Rome Italy offer to buy it off auction. Went for $400 plus shipping. I thought it a bit high butI am not upset either!

This is a selection of photos from the Translation Forum page....they were set up here as well since they are of interest to dagger collectors. Our new member "Billie" has an interesting example of M35 MVSN dagger.

Hey Arditi,
Oops, off by 4. Honestly got to tell you I'm still scratching my head on how I won that one at that $$. It looks great with an Italian impression let me tell you. The new one I'm working on will be something to see.
