Need a Badge ID

Can someone tell me what I have here? Can't find a duplicate in any of the reference books.

It's a Carabinieri badge. Post-1946: the R and I lettering means "Repubblica Italiana". Earlier examples had a V and E included in the grenade (the initials of the King). Others have no lettering at all and were used by Carabinieri embedded in the GNR or in the early times of the Republic.

Ah well. The pith helmet was on eBay with a starting bid of $0.99. I bid $1.00 and ended up being the only bidder. (Sometimes even a blind squirrel...:D) Guess I can't really complain. (It did cost me $20 to get it shipped, however!)

Oh nevermind. Carabinieri fakes are plentiful. Replace the badge and warn people.

Naw, I'll just leave it as it is. Probably have to hurt the helmet to get the insignia off anyhow. It might be postwar, but it is original.
