Please, feel free to wear you A.S. impression around St Joe! You wont be hurting my feelings. Still job hunting but if I land one here, sooner than later I hope, I will look into getting an A.S. deal from Remo. End of June is still far off. If not, since it will be summer, I can stick it out with the basic wools. I don't think any of us will be wearing our cont. tunics, should be hot out there. I just need a bustina to complete my uniform. If you and Chris go with the A.S., perhaps I could borrow one of your bustinas? That may give us a nice mix of uniforms for display purposes for the public. Show the different types of uniforms the Italians wore for summer months?? Or desert wear, I guess.

For the beach landing as Livornio, I do feel we should all try to be in same uniform though. And after our battle on Sunday, it's pretty much pack up and go home.

I have finally gotten around to posting some photos of the uniform package I ordered from Remo last year. I got the wool uniform package plus some other goodies. I must say I was, and still am, quite pleased with it! The cut of the puttees make them much easier to wrap and the pantaloons are baggy and long enough that they reach the ankle.

Here’s a photo showing the uniform with Bersaglieri fiamme sewn on. I’ve worn it a few times since I got it last year, so the shirt is a bit faded:

The uniform package comes with your choice of mostrine and bustina fregio, however I had difficulty deciding and ending up ordering a few different ones. Here’s a photo showing the selection of distintivi I purchased:

Besides the basic uniform package, I also got the tropical M42 Bustina, to which I made one modification. When I received it, the chin strap was sewn to the cap without buttons. Whilst this is authentic, I wanted the other style, so I sewed button holes and added original wood buttons. I’m sure Remo can and does make both kind, but I didn’t specify. Here is a photo showing the modification I made:

Thanks for posting the pictures of Equipe Sartoria uniform package.

I must say I am at a loss on why reenactors still look for a Chinese supplier when Remo offers a great package. For the price of a high-end German tunic and pants, SE gives you a high-end uniform set with giacca, pantaloni, camicia, fasce molletieri, cravatta, and bustina, all with insignia of your choice.

He offers everything. A good investment for years of Italian renacting.

I incidentally bumped into this posting and would like to elaborate a little on it. While going through recruit school in the Norwegian army many years ago we were issued this item - "foot cloths". This was the classic infantry foot wear and I am not sure from where they originated, the earlier Norwegian army or the British one. Anyway, this wasn't as crazy as it can sound but they took a little practice to use correctly. If used wrongly the result could be disastrous, with enormous blisters. We were also issued socks which could be used to increase the "hold" on the foot cloths, or even two sets of foot cloths used together. Anyway, these, correctly adapted, served both as a sort of shock absorbers and were cooler during summer than socks were. They were thicker, and more solidly made, than the socks themselves. Originally, I suspect there was also a cost issue involved. With experience we found that the boot itself could make the difference if they worked or not. Too large boots invariably resulted in the cloth losing its form and grip on the foot. To put them on was a whole little ceremony.
