Hello all;
I have been thinking of putting together a Guastatori impression to go with my German Assault Engineer impression. I have a couple of questions, because I really want to do the impression right.
1. Did they wear as a cap badge, was it a standard sappers badge or something different.
2. Did they wear this collar tab:

3. What if any special equipment did they carry with them?
4. I have read that they evolved from Alpini troops and some of them kept the Alpini cap. Would this have been worn everyday or just for special occations?
5. Is this a good photo of what I should be aiming for?


Any help would be great.

Doing a little more reserch on this impression and found this on the web:

I think it says that the red mostrine was used on the russian front in 40 and 41 but the units were destroyed.

"Fra il '40 ed il '41 ebbe breve vita la specialità "Guastatori" dell'Arma di Fanteria. I suoi pochi battaglioni si consumarono sul fronte Russo. Avevano mostreggiature rosse guarnite dalla granata fiammeggiante sovrastata dal gladio romano"

can anyone translate this to double check my translation programe?
