British Chariots vs. Italian Human Torpedos

Hi Jim,
the chariot was a pure copy of the first generation of SLC. They had, so, the same mechanical and electric problems of the 1940-1941 "maiali" which hampered so many times their early raids and the Decima MAS was able to solve only in summer 1941. Being not affordable they were soon dropped by the British since autumn 1943.
For the source the best is Bagnasco and Spertini I mezzi d'assalto della Decima Flottiglia MAS, ed Albertelli.
Bye EC

Thanks EC. I appreciate the help! When are you going to provide us a naval article for this site? :)

An expanded version of the scoring the naval war in the med to debunk the kiddies who read only about "...and the Italian navy ran away" would be great. http://www.comandosupremo.com/forum/vie ... php?t=1619
Otherwise I'd kill for something that better explains Italian use and employment of hydrophones and sonar during the war. I've heard once from a US poster that Italian hydrophones were considered good however due to the bad characteristics of the Med waters range was reduced. The Gabbiano class corvettes seemed to have had a considerable success during the time of the war they operated. Although I think most or all of their victims were the larger S and T type boats going off the top of my head.
Back on topic,
Did the Brits ever produce a chariot that was equivalent to the later series SLC that was not employed, afaik, due to the armistice?

That was an incredibly enlightening work: still remember my joy while reading those lines by Supermarina. 8)
