"Mod.38" 9mm cartridge [9X19] with brass case. Note the bullet with the
nickel-alloy jacket and the deep serrated crimp on the brass cartridge
case. This Italian 9mm M38 cartridge is headstamped "G.F.L.9.M38" over
"1943" [Headstamp = the markings imprinted on the base of the cartridge
case]. The M38 marked Italian cartridges were intended for the 9mm
Italian Beretta Mod.38A submachine-gun [SMG]. The M38 cartridges were
loaded to the same pressure as a standard 9mm [9X19] Luger / Parabellum
cartridge. The mark "M38" was stamped to make sure that this particular
cartridge was NOT used in the 9mm Glisenti or Brixia pistols. The 9mm
M38 cartridge was the standard WW2 Italian cartridge for the Beretta
SMGs. Note: The Italian 9mm Glisenti cartridge [not iustrated in my
photo] is identical with the 9mm [9X19] Luger / Parabellum round, but it
is LESS powerful due to the load used. The 9mm Glisenti cartridge was
used by some old Italian pistols and SMGs. The standard 9mm [9X19] Luger/ Parabellum must not be fired in the weapon intended for the 9mm [9X19] Glisenti cartridge or loading. The 9mm [9X19] Glisenti Cartridges have truncated bullets, not round-nose bullets. --- At right in my photo is a
standard WW2 German made 9mm [9X19] Luger / Parabellum cartridge.
Note the green laquered steel cartridge case and the tombac jacket bullet.
This German cartridge was made in 1944 and is headstamped "ak St+ 9
44". Final note: Both these cartridges from my photo are of equal power
and have a straight rimless cartridge case with round-nose bullets.
Dimensions: Case lenght - 19mm; Cartridge length - 29.2mm; Rim [base]
diameter - 9.9mm.
