Italian Army campaigns in World War 2

I wish to read, and perhaps even to write detailed tactical, operational and strategic Histories of the Italian army's campaigns in World War 2, including Greece, Russia, Yugoslavia, Alpine France Sardinia, the Dodecanese, North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Apart from the "Hollow Legions" a sketchy account on Greece, in 1940-41, and the plentiful material on Beda Fomm, the Wavell Offensive and Ethiopia, there is not much there, in English, at least. Most accounts of Italian battles are sketchy, vague and biased references in allied official histories, not detailed sympathetic accounts interested in exploring the tactics and activities of Italian military formations. Case in point: compare this sites article on the battle of Gela to the brief, dismissive, two page summary in the American Official account of Sicily. Also, refer to the histories of the Afrika Korps, which do little more than list the Italian formations involved in Rommel's battles, and say very little about their actions, and sacrifices, in pinning down British infantry while German AND Italian armor enveloped allied flanks. Do any of you know of English language articles and books covering Italy's campaigns, especially English translations of Italian official histories? Please offer any information or leads you have.

Hi

To my knowledge, there is no direct english language account (or translation) detailing Italian Army operations in WWII. 'The Hollow Legions' is the nearest I have found to a detailed overview.

I have been able to find some academic articles on Italy's war effort (by people like Brian Sullivan, MacGregor Knox and James Shadkovich) but these tend to be general overviews of Italys war effort rather than anything specific about campaigns.

Have you read the article that Brian Sullivan wrote for 'Time to Kill' on the Italian Army? This is, of course, very brief but it one of the few overviews in English of the army's campaigns in WWII. It is very intelligently written and might be good for a basic starting point if you haven't seen it already.

The only detailed work that exists in english on Italy's war effort is Shadkovich's book on the Italian Navy. That is an extremely good and well balanced account-nothing comparable exists, so far, on the army.
