What books would I get that would explain at least the "ideal" TO&E from the beginning of the war and 1942 in detail. Something that includes the number of men and equipment that would make up a rifle platoon, mortar company, etc. I have a vague impression of how these were made up, just wish to get something that is a bit more complete if possible.
Thanks.

Jeffrey, the best stuff is that collected by Nafziger. On his site http://home.fuse.net/nafziger/toe.html he claims that the Italian TO&Es are the most detailed (down to man/weapon level) together with the German and American ones.
I have his books (3 volumes) concerning the Italian OoB in WW2 and I found several translation errors and some incongruencies but guess they are the most detailed stuff one can find.
