“Cesare” and “Cavour” were built in 1912 and were the first units to be rebuilt in 1933. Work included improvement of artillery from 305 to 320mm caliber, substitution of engines and remodeling of shape. While “Cesare” and “Doria”originally belonged in the same class, differences in refitting was so great, that in WWII they were seen as different classes.
Andrea Doria Class Battleship

The Andrea Doria and Caio Duilio were initially built in 1915-1916. However, extensive modernization was completed between 1933 and 1940. Some modernizations included lengthening the ships by 11meters, reboring and rechambering of turrets for new rounds which weighed 493 lbs.
Littorio Class Battleship

During the Second World War, Italy had 5 Battleships. The Littorio (renamed Italia), Vittorio Veneto, Impero and Roma. These 41,400 ton Battleships boasted 15″ guns and a top speed of 31.4 knots.
Aquila Class Aircraft Carrier

The Aquila was 1 of 3 planned aircraft carriers for the Italian navy. The Aquila was to hold up to 53 Reggiane Re 2001 aircraft. Construction began in 1942 by modifying the ocean liner “Roma”.
